Another Painting

This time, from the north east corner of Ploscha Rynok, looking down towards the Dominican Church.

I had a brief chat with another artist, who's been painting around the square for many years. The chat was brief in no small part because of the limits of not speaking the same language. He showed me a press clipping of him painting in the square.

It's fun painting in such a busy place. Makes you feel like part of the action. Lots of people came up and had a look at the painting and several stopped to talk.

Beautiful L'viv

Posted by Kat Crichton Wed, 28 Apr 2010 07:55:00 GMT

I’ve been living and working in L’viv (a spectacular Medieval city near the west border of Ukraine) for a couple of weeks now.

I’m trying to learn a bit of the language, but it’s fairly hard getting your message across. Very few people who went to school during the Soviet era learnt English, because the chances of travelling anywhere where it was spoken were very slim.

Only people who have been in education in the last 20 years are likely to have picked up any English, so at the moment, the cut-off age is early-thirties.

Last weekend, I managed to find an art supplies shop thanks to some helpful ladies in a local art gallery. So I set to work sketching and painting one of the views from my balcony onto Ploscha Rynok (Market Square).

Hopefully the weather will be as good this weekend, so I can get out and paint somewhere else.

On Holiday - Kinda!

Posted by Kat Crichton Mon, 25 Aug 2008 21:39:00 GMT

Normally the rooms of our home echo with shrieking, strange music and argument. Now there is but silence. My Beloved and I have the whole house to ourselves for a week and it is utter bliss.

I don’t have the whole week off (I have to go in for Tuesday and Friday), but it’s enough to make me feel much more relaxed.

So far, I’ve managed to get the bulk of our wedding invitations sorted and tidied up a bit. Hopefully we can get a some painting and music done later in the week.

I have decided to learn to sight-read Piano music. We constantly seem to be missing an accompanist for many of our endeavours, and I figure it can’t be much harder than learning to touch-type!

Just a little focused effort should do the trick…

Godot Flushed Away

Posted by Kat Crichton Tue, 14 Nov 2006 12:16:00 GMT

I had an afternoon of sitting down enjoying myself on Sunday. Theatre, arcade and cinema respectively.

Firsly I went to see a Gate Theatre of Dublin production of Waiting for Godot at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. I'd not seen the play before, though it's reputation as a masterpiece of absurdist theatre had not escaped my attention.

The performances were highly memorable and thoroughly engaging. The play has moments of humour, pathos and tragedy, exploring memory and companionship. I can only say that I'm very pleased that I saw this particular production and I'd thoroughly recommend it.

I followed high culture with pop culture and spend a couple of hours in an arcade playing amongst other games OutRun 2 SP - which I completed on the two easiest levels. Seems a little easier than the original Out Run

Next I settled down in the Cineplex to watch the new movie Flushed Away, which is a fantastically entertaining film. It brings together the production quality of Dreamworks with the great characterisation and humour of Aardman Animation. This really does feel like an Aardman film, the wide mouthed characters are clearly related to Wallace and Grommit. Take your kids to see this movie and if you don't have kids, steal someone else's - you won't regret it (at least until you get arrested).
